LFA Trainer of the Month for August: Jason Barber
Jason Barber (center) with members of the Chicago Fire Department after a day of SYNRGY360 training.
Life Fitness Academy (LFA) Trainer of the Month is designed to help you get to know the trainers behind one of the greatest educational resources at Life Fitness. We’ve introduced you to two trainers so far, Michele Sotak and Filip Debast. This month, we highlight Jason Barber, CSCS of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Barber is a Master Trainer with LFA and brings over 10 years of experience with him. In August, he’ll be sharing some of this invaluable knowledge with all of us. Let’s get to know Jason.
How did you get involved with LFA? What does your role entail?
I have been involved with Life Fitness and LFA on and off since 2002. I assist with writing curriculum and training customers who have purchased equipment that entails more in-depth training.
How do you keep busy when you aren’t working with LFA?
When I am not working with Life Fitness I do fitness consulting work with military units, as well as train Olympic and professional athletes. I also enjoy finding fun places to go in the Rocky Mountains with my family.
What’s your best kept fitness secret?
I am goal oriented, so I find something (Obstacle Course race, climbing 14,000-foot mountains, etc.) challenging and prepare myself for it. It keeps me motivated.
Do you have a go-to post-workout treat?
I usually have a pre-made protein shake.
What is your favorite piece of Life Fitness or Hammer Strength equipment to train people on?
My two favorite lines are HD Elite and Hammer Strength Ground Base. I also love training around the SYNRGY system.
Excluding your personal training sessions with customers, how often do you work out per week?
I work out five or six times a week.
Do you have a fun fact for us?
I'm an avid (however not competitive) obstacle course race participant. I have completed over 10 Adventure Races, eight Spartan Races, four Tough Mudders, and the World’s Toughest Mudder. Over the past two Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, I have placed 22 athletes in the Olympic games (2012/2016).
Want more from Jason? We’ll be back later this month with custom workouts, fitness tips, and more. In the meantime, tweet your questions to @LifeFitness with #LFAToTM and we’ll try to get them answered.
