SCHILLER PARK, IL, Nov. 24, 2009 – Each fall, strength, sweat and stamina are on display in high school stadiums, weight rooms and football practice fields across America. Hammer Strength is recognizing the select young athletes who work harder and longer to be their best, with its second annual Hammer Strength High School Football Player of the Year Award. The acknowledgment honors student-athletes who demonstrate consistent dedication to four key areas: work ethic, effort, leadership and academics.

Nominations must be submitted by the athlete's coach. Contest rules and submission forms are available at , and must be submitted by Jan. 18, 2010. The winner will be announced in February 2010.

The winner is presented with a trophy, receives a kit of Hammer Strength gear, and is profiled in the April issue of American Football Monthly magazine. A win also secures the player's school a free piece of Hammer Strength equipment for its weight room. Up to five runners-up are also recognized.

"This program acknowledges the players with more than just the speed and size necessary to succeed. We want to honor those athletes with the unrelenting commitment to their team, sport and academic studies," said John Stransky, president of Life Fitness. "We're looking for exceptional student-athletes who stand out both on, and off the field."

At 5-foot, 10-inches and 158 pounds, last year's recipient, Alex Croitoru, a senior receiver and defensive back from Andover High School in Wichita, Kan., did not have the beefy features for which most football players are known. But, determined to be the best that he could be, Croitoru spent hours in the weight room before and after practice to improve his physical abilities, while maintaining an impressive 3.5 grade point average.
